[FR] Les poètes traditionnels de Conamara aujourd’hui font leur métier au bout d’un continu ininterrompu de 2 000 ans. La conscience psychologique et la Weltanschauung de leur art viennent de l’univers symbolique gaélique comme il s’est développé pendant des siècles. La voix narrative et la fonction de cette poésie orale viennent aussi de la tradition. Comparé à la poésie soi-disant «moderne», cet art dépeint la vie quotidienne de la communauté de la Gaeltacht du Conamara du point-de-vue des habitants de cette communauté. On n’y trouve ni de grande philosophie ni des questions fondamentales concernant la nature humaine. Bien qu’ils fonctionnent dans un monde moderne, les poètes comprennent bien l’importance de la tradition. Cette conférence essaie d’éclairer le mariage dans la poésie entre les modes de réflexion d’autrefois et les concepts du monde moderne.

Traditional poets of Conamara today practice their craft at the end of an uninterrupted continuum of 2000 years. The psychological consciousness, the ‘Weltanschauung’ of their art procede from the Gaelic symbolic universe as it has developed through the centuries. The narrative voice and the function of this oral poetry also procede from tradition. Compared with so-called modern poetry, this art depicts everyday-life in the Gaeltacht community of Conamara from the inside. The poems contain no high philosophy nor fundamental questions concerning human nature. Though they function in a modern world, the poets understand very well the importance of tradition. This lecture discusses the link in this poetry between ancient modes of thought and modern concepts of the world.
